CHRISTIAN HARBOUR - OWNER/OPERATOR

I established Green Thumb Horticulture in 2016, motivated by a desire to invest my time and energy within the outdoor space. Building this business has advanced my appreciation for our ecosystems and my understanding of conservation. These insights have been foundational to my success in my chosen vocation which requires the application of scientific knowledge in a practical setting.

I am currently completing a Bachelor of Environmental Science (environmental management & sustainability) with the intention of offering a holistic environmental service.

I enjoy learning about the natural mechanics the earth has developed over many years and how to then incorporate these into my business practices, to assist the ecosystems I work within to better cope with the climate and other stress factors they encounter. One of the areas I am most interested in is the nutrient cycle and how it can be translated and then implemented on a more practical level for homeowners and small businesses.

As a business owner-operator I have become increasingly aware of the issues we face in adapting to the climate emergency our planet is predicted to experience. I want to be able to further understand and conserve our interdependent biological communities. I operate my business ethically, with a view to maximise the technology available to us. One example has been refining the services I provide to be more sustainable; creating resilient landscapes which are better suited to our variable climate. In the future, I see myself continuing this process of combining technology with my desire to protect global biodiversity and promote human adaption.
